Which Is The Best? Wax Vs. Sealant Coatings

Posted on: 15 May 2019

When you are engaged in auto detailing, you may use wax and sealants to detail your car. There are big differences between these two options and it's important to know which one to use. Both products will protect your vehicle's paint. However, whether or not you use one or another is based in part on your own preferences and is also based on the climate you live under and your lifestyle preferences. You may also be able to apply both options.

Advantages of Wax

Products that are labeled as wax can refer to a great range of products. Typically, Carnauba is considered to be the best wax for cars. The goal of wax is to sit on top of your paint and create a deeper hue. They have the ability to bring life to your wax. They provide protection for your paint that is breathable.

One option for your vehicle is a polish wax. While this might seem like it covers all of your bases, this is not the best option because the wax acts as a lubricant and does not allow the polish to do its job. Instead, you will want to choose wax and take extra steps to make sure that your car is fully detailed. If you would like to spend the time to apply wax to your vehicle to give it a brilliant luster, this might be the best choice for you. However, if you don't like putting in the work, a better option might be to use a sealant.

Advantages of Sealants

Sealants have become more popular because of how they are able to make your car beautiful and also have a lot of longevity. They are also very hard. The sealant adheres to a surface and create a protective shell that can last half a year. While some motorists prefer the glass-like finish of a sealant, others prefer the texture of wax. However, the sealant requires fewer applications than the wax coatings.

Going Both Ways

Some motorists will even apply wax over a sealant to offer the richness of wax without the need to apply the coating as often. You also don't have to worry about damaging your vehicle if you don't have the time to apply wax properly. If you still can't decide, consider contacting an auto detailing service that can not only offer you advice, but also detail your car for you.
